3D Reality

Depending on which news reports you read, 3D TV is either going to be the next big thing, or is still years – if not decades – away from full commercial development. According to a press release from BSkyB back in December 2008, Sky’s R&D team successfully demonstrated that 3D content can be delivered using the standard Sky+ HD set top box, via a ’3D Ready’ TV. They’ve even produced a nifty little diagram to show us all how its done – click here to view.

But until we’re all ducking from the football that’s flying from the TV screen, there is a product available now that’s a step in the right direction.

The Minoru (meaning ‘reality’ in Japanese) 3D webcam allows you to film videos and take photos in 3D, as well as stream in 3D over instant messengers like Windows Live Messenger and Skype. All that you or your messenger contact need to view the footage is a pair of 3D glasses – five pairs are included with the camera.

The camera is simple to set up and install, with the necessary software also included in the box.
And it looks very smart too!
